What is the programme all about?

The Go For It programme is designed to support parents in helping their children to be healthier, build up their confidence and self-esteem and help them reach their potential. Advice is given on diet, nutrition, portion control, exercise and behavioural modifications.

We welcome families with a child who has either, been identified as having an unhealthy weight, or, for parents who are concerned about their child’s weight or unhealthy lifestyle.

The aim of the programme is to help children to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

What does the programme include?

  1. physical activity sessions
  2. healthy eating advice
  3. parent workshops
  4. assessments and monitoring

Parents or guardians are invited to attend healthy lifestyle workshops focusing on diet and nutrition, activity levels and behaviour change. One to one support is given where needed.

Twice a week, after school, children will take part in a gym or studio based fitness programme, including team games and lots of fun!

 What do the assessments include?

  1. Taking a history of your child’s lifestyle, including nutrition, activity and sedentary behaviours
  2. Child’s measurements will include weight, height, waist circumference and a fitness test
  3. Reviewing your child’s progress at the end of the course.

How much will it cost?

The ‘Go For It’ is funded by Kent County Council, Public Health, and is FREE to families with children aged 4-17 years of age who are concerned about their child’s weight or unhealthy lifestyle choices.

How long does the programme last and what time is it on ?

Generally the programme is delivered after school during term time, lasting 8-12 weeks. However each venue is at different times, so for more information please contact us.


To join the GO FOR IT family weight management programme in Maidstone, or Tonbridge and Malling you may contact your school Nurse, Paediatrician, GP, Practice Nurse Family Liaison Officer, Social worker or other health professional and they will refer you.
